At the age of eight years old, I lost two things: my parents and something that most people take for granted. It was at that moment I began to experience the world differently from everyone else. I accepted my fate, living my life to the fullest and the best way I know how. Giving up on love was something I had to do because men couldn't cope with my condition. Then I met him and he changed everything for me. A smart, sexy, and shattered man who hid in the shadows of his own tragedy. A man who kept the better part of himself concealed away from the world. I wanted to show him that life was more than how he saw it. My name is Aubrey Callahan and I am blind. The moment I laid eyes on her, I wanted her. She was beautiful, uncomplicated, and one night was all I needed. People referred to me as "The Iceman" because I was controlling, ruthless, and didn't give a damn about people's feelings. I was a user and the only person I protected was myself. Then something happened after a single night with her. The feelings and nightmares that I buried years ago began to resurface. Even though I was a billionaire who could have anything in the world, I couldn't stop the demons that lived inside me. Aubrey couldn't see me for who I really was and she deserved better than me. My name is Ethan Klein and I am a destroyed man. Readers 18+

When A child is born with deformities, or defects, God is blamed. But did you ever think that God does things for a reason. And if those who are so blessed with deformities or defects meet and fall in love, well so much the better. The problem is that usually the world is not very accommodating or tolerant of or with one of these types of children, there are not very many avenues open to them. So, they set about making their own way within the life that God has dealt to them. But this path is never an easy one, and it's usually strewn with obstacles that most people never have to contend with. This is a story of two such people and how they contend with the problems they face. It is a story of human triumph in the face of overwhelming odds against them. It's a story of how true love can somehow bridge even the widest of gaps, and somehow prevail in the end.

In high school, despite my passion for and acumen in math and science, I was counseled to avoid higher education in these fields because there would not be employment opportunities for a blind man in these disciplines. Surpassing Expectations: My Life without Sight is a memoir which describes the activities that brought me international acclaim as a scientist, policymaker, and advocate. Dozens of vignettes are included that portray my joyous and successful life despite having been blind since the age of five. The book was written to be informative, entertaining, and, hopefully for some, inspirational. Many people have a disability or at least a functional limitation, and too many of them feel lost, not knowing whether life will ever be fulfilling for them. Often they are helped by learning about someone else with a disability who had the motivation, persistence, and tools that allowed him or her to overcome their difficulties and to attain a higher quality of life. My book is intended to serve this purpose. Dispersed throughout the autobiographical material, I answer questions that people regularly pose to me: What emotional crises did I face when adapting to blindness as a child? What barriers did I encounter during my education and when seeking competitive employment? What techniques do I use to ensure safe independent travel especially in foreign countries? What adaptations did I need to make as a husband and father? What type of technological tools do I use to reduce the effects of blindness? What imagery do blind people experience in their thoughts and dreams? The memoir describes legislation that I drafted, which enhanced computer usability for people with disabilities. I also recount incidents that occurred during my numerous foreign travels, invitations to speak and advise in venues such as the White House and Universal Television studios, and my interactions with famous people from Swedish Queen Silvia to Geraldo Rivera. The book concludes with my thoughts on how I succeeded in my education and arduous career while enjoying an active life. I offer suggestions on how my formula for success and happiness can be emulated by others, especially young people who also have a disability.

Originally published between 1909 and 1917 under the name "Harvard Classics," this stupendous 51-volume set-a collection of the greatest writings from literature, philosophy, history, and mythology-was assembled by American academic CHARLES WILLIAM ELIOT (1834-1926), Harvard University's longest-serving president. Also known as "Dr. Eliot's Five Foot Shelf," it represented Eliot's belief that a basic liberal education could be gleaned by reading from an anthology of works that could fit on five feet of bookshelf. Volume XXIV features four philosophical works by Irish statesman EDMUND BURKE (1729-1797): [ "On Taste," a 1756 consideration of critical reasoning [ "On the Sublime and Beautiful," a 1757 essay on aesthetics that would influence Immanuel Kant [ "Reflections on the French Revolution," a 1790 argument against that budding uprising, which continues to inform anticommunist and antisocialist debates [ "A Letter to a Noble Lord," a 1796 missive that is a classic political tirade

Terri Spencer, Rachel Collins, Laurie Keats, and Abigail Dawson had known each other for as long as they could remember. They had attended the same school and shared the same interests. They were inseparable. Through the years, the four had become like sisters. But their lives take a turn when Terri falls asleep at the wheel and is killed in the crash. Believing the surviving friends need time to themselves for healing from the shock of Terri’s death, Rachel offers Abby and Laurie an all-expenses-paid trip to Spain. Meanwhile, in Spain, Mateo Solis mourns the death of his wife, Samia. When he catches a glimpse of Abby, who bears an uncanny resemblance to his late wife, his grief-stricken brain follows through with a wild scheme. He kidnaps Abby and plans to continue where his life left off. While her friends frantically search for her, Abby—who’s trapped in an emotionally abusive marriage with her husband, Jake—begins to have feelings for Mateo. Abby wonders if being at the wrong place at the wrong time was an act of fate. Should she put her fear on the back burner and follow her heart?
